Plastic Collection Drives
Our Plastic Collection Drives are key to transforming waste into valuable resources. We partner with local communities to collect and upcycle plastic waste into useful items like benches and cupboards. These donations support various community organizations and help combat plastic pollution.

In August 2023, Upcycled conducted a large-scale plastic collection drive in the Marine Drive neighborhood of Mumbai. Visiting various residential complexes in the area, we utilized public bins to collect large amounts of plastic waste, which was then processed by Advikaa CleanTech Association, who assisted our initiative with logistical aspects such as pickups, drop-offs, and warehousing, and eventually recycling the plastic into durable and useful cupboards. Upcycled donated 2 of these cupboards, sponsored by Springwell, to the Guild of Service Bombay - Family Home for Boys.
In November 2023, Upcycled conducted its second collection drive with the help of upstanding citizens in the Napean Sea Road area, across complexes such as Urvashi, Nymph, and Laxmi Vilas. The initiative yielded immense amounts of plastic waste, which was compiled, picked up, and eventually processed into eco-friendly, recycled benches, thereby turning plastic’s terrible impact on the environment into something of use for the entire community. These benches, along with a cupboard, were then donated to the NSG Base Camp. In addition to this, two benches were also donated to BMC
In January 2024, Upcycled conducted an additional collection drive at Colaba and Cuffe Parade with the help of local residents. We collected plastic waste which was then processed by Advikaa CleanTech Association, and recycled into benches. These benches were donated to Snehlaya, in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra.

The collection drives are now an ongoing initiative, with members and organizations of the community regularly donating any plastic waste accumulated. This plastic is sent every two weeks to Aadvikaa CleanTech, who continue to support our initiative by manufacturing cupboards, benches and penholders. We have been lucky enough to regularly find partners who are willing to help with the cost of conversion as they appreciate the cause.
Coffee Capsules
As our next initiative, we decided to collect and upcycle coffee capsules. While many companies make biodegradable ones today, there are 56,000,000,000 coffee capsules that still end up in landfills every year.
In June 2024, we organized a collection drive to collect coffee capsules and recycle them. These were then utilized in art workshops at the Guild of Service, facilitated by an Art & Craft Expert who came on board for the cause. The capsules were used to create decorative candle holders, which are being sold to individuals as Diwali approaches.
The proceeds will be donated to the Guild of Service and utilised as per the needs of the NGO.
